Human skills is the manager's ability to work with and through other people both individually and in groups.

It refers to a manager's capacity to work with and manage human resources in order to get the best possible results.

Managers require human skills for the following reasons:

1. Human skill is necessary to get the best of subordinates and other human resources of the organization

2. Human skill is also necessary to get the job done because no managers can truly achieve results without managing human resources properly.

3. High organizational performance is obtained when efficiency and effectiveness are both high. For a manager to be effective and efficient, then he must have a highly motivated subordinate (people).

Since human skills involve motivating people, Human skills are also important for high organizational performance.

4. To communicate, lead, and establish team spirit among subordinates, good human skill is required.

5. Henry Mintzberg gave three main managerial roles which are: interpersonal, informational and decisional. A good human skill is also necessary for a manager to perform his interpersonal roles effectively.

Managers may be unable to play interpersonal role if they lack good human skills.
