WHAT ARE THE TWO TYPES OF SOCIAL ORGANIZATION PROPOSED BY FERDINAND TONNIES?

According to Ferdinand Tonnies, there were two types of social organisations, namely; Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft.

Gemeinschaft refers to relationships that are intimate, personal and cooperative.

It refers to a group based on mutual feelings of togetherness and interpersonal bonds.

Gesellschaft, on the other hand, alludes to impersonal and self-contained relationships.

It refers to groups that are sustained by it being instrumental for their members' aims and goals.

Gesellschaft maintains its balance through police, laws, tribunals, and prisons, while Gemeinschaft achieves equilibrium through social control mechanisms such as morals, conformism, and exclusions.
