Management can be defined as the utilization of resources in the most effective and efficient pursuit of organizational goals.

It is the systematic process of planning,  organizing, leading, and controlling the resources of the organization to achieve organizational goals effectively and efficiently.

Management involves setting plans, organizing organizational activities, leading the people of an organization, and controlling the resources of an organization.

Leadership, on the other hand, is the systematic process of influencing subordinates towards achieving organization.

It is the process by which leaders influences and direct the activities of their followers. 

Leadership involves inspiring, influencing, encouraging, and motivating others to work to achieve a particular goal and providing guidance and support as needed. 

Differences Between Leadership and Management 

1. Leadership means influencing and encouraging people to achieve organizational goals whereas management means utilizing resources (financial, physical, and human resources)  in a way that achieves organizational goals effectively and efficiently.

2. Leadership requires followers to trust in the vision of the leaders so that it can be effective.

On the other hand, management requires managers' control over subordinates so that it can be effective.

3. Leadership influences the activity of everyone in the organization. It infuses energy into the organization.

On the other hand, management directs the activities and performance of people to achieve the goals of the organization effectively and efficiently.

4. Leadership is typically proactive whereas management is typically reactive.

5. Another important difference between leadership and management is that leadership is more concerned with the personal growth and development of followers whereas management is more focused on the development of the team and the organization.

6. Leadership is about using charisma and action to influence others whereas management is about using position and authority to influence others.

7. Leadership process involves inspiring and guiding people, while the management process involves planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the resources of an organization.

8. The next difference between leadership and management is that leaders are often innovative and open to new ideas, whereas managers are often focused on maintaining stability and following laid-down policies and procedures.

9. It is through leadership that direction and visions are set whereas it is through management that the visions are implemented.

10. Leadership communicates vision and direction, whereas management communicates goals and objectives.

Conclusion 

To summarize, management is the systematic process of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the resources of an organization in the most efficient and effective pursuit of organizational goals.

Leadership is the process of influencing and directing the activities of subordinates toward achieving organizational goals.

There are several differences between leadership and management, including the focus on personal growth versus team and organizational development, the use of charisma and action versus position and authority to influence others, and the proactive versus reactive nature of each.
